As a follow-up cooperation, a scope of work to this effect was signed here today between JICA and AIOU in the premises of the university. According to the agreed plan, JICA with its technical assistance framework, will procure and install by substituting the existing analog broadcasting system with latest digital technology.

Mr. Takatoshi Nishikata, Chief Representative of JICA while talking to the Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi said that JICA has a laudable history of development of educational sector in Pakistan. “I hope the equipment will be efficiently and effectively utilized to spread education in every corner of the country and make all unprivileged areas developed and educated” he added.

The Vice Chancellor earlier expressed his deep sorrow and grief to the bereaved victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan and offered every possible support in the reach of his university. Dr. Sangi while remarking on the project said “electronic media support has a positive impact on the learning abilities of the students and the up gradation of the setup will enable AIOU to deliver improved educational services to the students of far-flung areas.”

First in 1996 and then in 2006, JICA assisted AIOU under the “Project for Improvement of Equipment at the Institute of Alama Iqbal Open University in Islamic Republic of Pakistan”. Under the project modern technological broadcasting system was installed for supporting the university’s effort to take education at the door step of the curious students of the alma-mater located in underprivileged geographical locations.

Since technology is changing fast, it is deemed necessary to equip the Institute with modern technology for better educational services to the students.
